I thinking about buying a used jd855 with 70a loader and jd belly mount mower. the tractor has 500 hours on it and the asking price is 11,000. I plan on using the loader for moving rocks and boulders and will acquire a brush hog type mower for rough mowing and cover crop mowing. Opinions, concerns, things I should be aware of, is it a decent machine?

David, I have a 655 4wd w/a model 60 front end loader and am very pleased with it. I have done some light bush hogging with a 5' bush hog and it handled it well. I would assume your machine is more than the 18hp mine is putting out. It sounds like you have a good piece of equipment for the price and task. I paid a little over 10k for mine, it had 312hrs on it. Good luck. ....

thanks for the advice and the concern about the 855 being too small. It's a done deal, I think the price I paid was fair and so now I can see if the 855 has serious limitations on the tasks ahead of it. If so, I hope to seek your advice again!!! ....
